The Choice

While other men may seek a crown
or seek to lay their bodies down
and die in dusty, shattered glory
thinking truth is just a story

Told to men when they were young,
when dangerous words and deeds were sung
by one-eyed men whose shattered visage
bore the mark of time's swift passage,

I, myself, shall sit at home,
seek sweet grass and further roam
afield 'tween dusk and darkened dawn
beneath the stars with doe and fawn

To drink in God's intended glory
with peace and truth to be the story
that guides men on to greener pastures
and frees their gentle, loving natures.
