Christmas Prayer for the Dead

Once upon a summer's sun
A child was born in pain
Who laughed and played 'til day was done
And night time brought the rain.

He grew up like a strong oak tree
And wisdom greyed his hair
And he had children just like he
Was when he had no care.

Once upon a winter's night
An old man died in peace.
For all was beauty in his sight
And love surrounds the feast.

Life slips by like sorrow.
It clings for just a season,
And leaves us on the morrow
With no mercy and no reason.

And if a billion billion hearts
Have not just lived in vain
Then all those lives are all just parts
Of Life which comes again.
