The Part and the Whole

The day
It just slips away
Like grease on a griddle of strife.

One day
We are children at play -
That night in the middle of life.

The next day that dawns
Greets death, as he yawns -
Dark chasm to suck in our soul.

But look past Death's grin
To the Light in his chin
Rejoining our part with the whole.
