GPG Keys

Instructions
Observe the following sequence:
- Save the key below into a file called (e.g.) rgb.gpg
- Add the key to your keyring:
rgb@ganesh|T:197>gpg --import rgb.gpg
- Time to validate the key. You probably shouldn't skip this step
unless you feel CERTAIN that the key in rgb.gpg is what it appears to
be. If you got it from this page, it probably is, but note that I
didn't make this page SSL-secured so it might not be. For casual
privacy it might be OK, for national security level privacy you probably
shouldn't trust it. So:
rgb@ganesh|T:198>gpg --edit-key rgb
gpg (GnuPG) 1.0.6; Copyright (C) 2001 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

(1). Robert G. Brown
Command> fpr
pub 1024D/E5637298 2001-01-21 Robert G. Brown
(and a bunch of cryptic numbers, the key's "fingerprint", should
appear). Leave gpg running in command mode and...
- Call me or otherwise contact me "securely" via the numbers in the
contact link on the left. Read them out loud to me while I verify them.
Then...
- Sign the key with your own key. This is basically attesting to
yourself and anybody else that you give it to that you have a chain of
confidence that the key really is my key and is current.
Command> sign
- You can then enter "check" if you want to see the final result.
- For further instructions on how to use the key to sign or encrypt
documents to be sent to me, visit:
The Gnu Privacy
Handbook or use tools that might be built into your e.g. mail
software already. Good Luck!
